Sessions with Dawn are customized to meet the clients wellness goals, utilizing the following Therapeutic Modalities:
Soft Tissue Mobilization – Use of a whole range of massage depths, pressures and durations to break up inelastic or fibrous muscle tissue called “myofascial adhesions” (such as scar tissue from a back injury), move tissue fluids, and relax muscle tension.
Swedish Massage – Use of movements such as: effleurage, or sliding movements; petrissage, or kneading movements; friction, or rubbing; passive stretching and movement of joints improving circulation of blood and lymph and relaxing superficial muscles.
Deep Pressure – Encourages the muscles to release, eases general aches and pains, and stimulates the circulatory system. Deeper pressure is also needed simply to access the deeper layers of muscle and tissue beyond the superficial muscles, like the flexor muscles (the ones that move your ankle and toes) under your calf muscles.
(While this is not a Deep Tissue session, some deep tissue application may be incorporated into the session).
This article sums it up nicely, “Instead of “deep tissue massage,” I practice what I call “deep ENOUGH tissue massage.”.
Deep Tissue – Focused pressure to directly manipulate tissue fibers. This can include stripping or tissue rolling to separate muscles, cross-fiber friction to realign tissue fibers, and concentrated compression to release chronic holding and tension.
Cold Stone Therapy for Headaches- A three-pronged approach that includes aromatherapy, massage therapy and cold therapy can be effective in helping relieve the pain of headaches.
Aromatherapy- The inhalation of aromatherapy oils affects the nervous system: slowing heart rate, induces relaxed breathing and decreases stress levels.
Moist Heat- Increases circulation, helps relieve muscle soreness, further warms tissues asnd aids in muscles being better able to receive massage.
Ice Massage- Soothing cold penetrates into muscles relieving the aches and pains of muscle strains, sprains and tendinitis. muscle spasms, pain and inflammation of osteoarthritis and other musculo-skeletal conditions.
Prenatal Massage- Prenatal massage helps to relieve common muscle aches, joint and nerve pains (sciatic pain occurs often in pregnancy), decrease swelling in the extremities and improve labor outcomes. Prenatal massage can reduce anxiety and stress and depression by decreasing the presence of norepinephrine and cortisol, both of which are stress-producing hormones, and increasing the presence of serotonin and dopamine, the “feel-good” hormones.
Postpartum Massage- Postpartum massage helps restore muscle tone in the abdomen and reposition the pelvis as your body must undergo quite a bit of structural realignment after delivery.
